MAKING INTUITIVE ACCESS SYSTEMS THAT WORK THROUGH TEAM ENABLEMENT

Paxton Access designs IP access control, door entry technology, and smart building systems and exports its smart building technology to more than 60 countries worldwide. Paxton Access was embarking on a refresh of one of its core products to simplify functionality and launch a new version that would deliver a better user experience and feature new smart building technology and security applications. Realising that many of their in-house designers had limited knowledge of UX design principles, Paxton Access' was looking for an experienced UX coaching and training provider to run an onsite training programme, carry out an extensive review of the user interface, and make recommendations for improvement.

Once the training courses were completed, Akendi completed a heuristic evaluation of the website interface and a detailed review of the Paxton 10 system from a usability perspective, which revealed over 200 areas for improvement. The review confirmed that Paxton's website was overly complicated which was impacting end-user engagement with different products, and resulting in high drop-off rates. Akendi presented its findings to Paxton's management team so they could be incorporated into the company's overall product development programme.
