card sorting analysis to guide the information architecture and information designs
Card Sorting Analysis Services
Card sorting is a simple, quick and relatively inexpensive usability technique that helps increase the findability of information on an intranet or corporate web site (among others). A card sorting usability study involves the grouping - sorting of a number of cards with a label, menu item or functionality into groups that makes sense to the end user. It can answer questions like:
-
How do you want to group certain information, e.g. by topic, by process step, by org chart, by project
-
What would be a good label for a group? do we use the jargon word, the lay man word or a description
-
How do we make sure the different user groups - personas can use this grouping of information?
We follow an established process to create a solid foundation for the information architecture for your intranet, web site, and gui design.
Card sorting techniques: Open sorts, closed sorts
Our card sorting test uses automated tools and a standard test protocol. To ensure the right results within your timeframes. We conduct open sorts and closed sorts to be used in the information architecture phase.
An open sort is more exploratory in nature. in this case, the group names are not predetermined and the participant has to give each newly created group a name. This technique gives good input when the information structure is new.
A closed sort is very useful when you are adding new content to existing web sites or intranets where you already have a navigation and information structure. In this case, the user has to add the information items to pre-existing group names so they don't have the opportunity to create a group name.
