Wayfinding System Design
Before a space can deliver value and be effectively used, the layout, elements in that space must be understood by customers and users who need it.
Akendi helps architects and builders develop effective architectural signage and wayfinding systems that improve tenant satisfaction, reduce user error, enhance the experience, and allow staff to be more productive by improving customer self-service.
Wayfinding Design & User Research
We observe, interview and conduct contextual inquiries to map the current experience that users have when interacting with the space. We align those usage patterns with the intended traffic flow and your business and organizational goals. Special attention is given to the decision points that users encounter as they navigate and use the space.
Through observations of users and interviews with staff and employees, we will research the most common questions and address them in the design. And, we will compile an inventory of existing signage and labelling before creating a new environmental design.
A new wayfinding system design may include:
- an information architecture and classification system;
- proposed floor plan;
- a new signage system and colour system.
To test the new signage design before production, we will build prototypes and 3D mock-ups to ensure that the experience design will deliver to the intended users.
